Transition Ministry in NW Texas

Founded in 1883, Heavenly Rest is a dynamic, growing parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas. This diverse community is a spiritual home to people from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. In addition to services in English, the parish offers worship in Swahili. Much of the parish’s recent growth has been facilitated by a relational evangelism and formation program called Exploring Spiritual Treasure, which relies on the principles of peer learning and allows newcomers to discover how God is at work in their lives and connect fully into the life of the community.
The Assistant Rector will be the staff person primarily responsible for coordinating and providing spiritual leadership to the Christian Formation programs at Heavenly Rest. This will include planning classes for adults on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, providing clergy support to the Exploring Spiritual Treasure program, and working with other members of the staff to design and implement compelling programming for children, youth, and intergenerational audiences. The Assistant Rector will share responsibility for liturgical leadership and preaching at Heavenly Rest, and will provide pastoral care to members of the community in a regular rotation. She or he will also participate in chapel services at St. John’s Episcopal School, and serve as a pastoral presence to the students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Assistant Rector will produce edifying written content for Heavenly Rest’s various publications, including the website and the seasonal newsletter.
The ideal candidate for this position should have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Assistant Rector should be able to work effectively and collaboratively with the rector, staff, and lay volunteers. She or he should be a compassionate and empathetic listener. The Assistant Rector should be sensitive to and interested in the variety of cultures represented at Heavenly Rest. The Assistant Rector should be willing to explore creative ways, both digital and otherwise, the Church can proclaim the gospel.
